The intent of this blog is to highlight areas of the book collecting world that are of interest to me. Henry Altemus Books, the authors- Wayne Whipple, George Peck (and his "Bad Boy"), Hezekiah Butterworth, Jacob Abbott- juvenile series books of the 19th and 20th centuries and book/publisher ephemera. I hope there is something for all collectors here.

Another Albert Bigelow Paine Inscription
This book is #5 in the Boys and Girls Booklovers Series. See http://henryaltemus.com/series/series56.htm.
Initially it was published as a non series book in 1903 and in 1905 became part of the aforementioned series.
This book has an inscription by the author to the dedicatee of the book. But even better is that the dedicatee is also the title character of the book.
And the author's daughter, I take it. You have to wonder how such a special book (would be to me) like this would ever leave a descendant's possession. I guess 4 or 5 generations down, the "special" feeling fades for some who never even knew the first few generations. An interesting and unique find!
ReplyDeleteBob Petitto: Wow....just wow. Incredible find, Cary!
